Free Liverpool city centre parking ended

Free evening parking in Liverpool city centre has officially ended.

Council bosses made the unpopular move to scrap the post-6pm measures at street level in May despite facing it being greeted with overwhelming opposition.

More than 90% of respondents to the proposals indicated they were against the move, which was officially put into effect with updated signage around the city.

The new restrictions will run from 7am until 11pm, an extension of six hours’ extra time that drivers will be charged for parking their vehicles at street level.

Motorists will also be charged more with parking charges rising from £1.20 to £2 for 30 minutes while the price for an hour has also been hiked to £4 from £2.40.

A council spokesperson confirmed on Monday that the scheme, which was first floated in late 2022, is now in effect across the city centre.
