A new community police station has opened on the site of Alder Hey.
Springfield Park Community Police Station will be based in the Catkin building at the children’s hospital to offer better accessibility for residents and visitors.
It will also serve as a drop-in point for Merseyside Police’s local policing team and response officers, as well as staff to enhance visibility and accessibility.
The opening of a community police station near to a hospital is a key step in the PCC and Merseyside Police’s commitment to partnership-working.
The Community Police Station will be open on a regular, but not continuous basis. Surgeries will be publicised at the station, on local billboards and through the force’s website and social media channels.
Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said: “Alder Hey is a much-loved institution in Merseyside, and we are proud to become one part of the wonderful services delivered there.
“Most importantly, the opening of Springfield Park Community Police Station will put our officers and staff right at the heart of the community in West Derby.
“As the first community police station in the region next to a hospital, it means we will be uniquely placed to address the needs of people visiting the hospital and those who live locally.
“Families visit the hospital often at incredibly challenging times in their lives. I am sure the presence of our officers will enable us to offer further reassurance and practical support to those families as our NHS colleagues treat their young loved ones.
“I know our local and response officers and PCSOs are looking forward to being at the heart of the communities, working from a community police station that has the modern facilities and tools they will need to help protect and support the public.”
