Arne Slot confirms fresh Liverpool injury blow

Arne Slot has confirmed Curtis Jones will miss Liverpool’s game with Ipswich.

The homegrown midfielder was withdrawn at the interval of Tuesday’s Champions League win over Lille with a knock picked up during the first half.

Jones previously picked up a minor injury at the start of the season which sidelined him for the Reds’ games with Brentford and Manchester United.

And while Slot admits that the 23-year-old’s latest setback is not set to rule him out for months, he is unavailable for Saturday’s Premier League clash.

“He went out during half-time, so that’s mostly not a good sign,” said Slot.

“It wasn’t because he will not be available for the game tomorrow.

“The rest we have to wait and see how long it’s going to take. I’m not expecting months.

“But let’s see if he’s available for PSV or Bournemouth.”

The Liverpool head coach also revealed his reasons for rotating Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson as his starting left-back in recent games.

Tsimikas was given the nod against Lille and Brentford while Robertson returned to the line-up in back-to-back league games with Nottingham Forest and United.

He added: “If Kostas was on a completely different level than Robbo, then it would not be smart to rotate in that position or manage the load.

“Because then you drop so far in quality that it could be a risk.

“I don’t know what Kostas’ situation was last season. I know that he didn’t play a lot but I don’t know which level he was at.

“But from the moment I came in, in our tour of the United States, he did really well.

“So he’s proved that he can play in the left full-back position as well.

“Since we’ve got now two good options in my opinion, you indeed see that we are managing loads and rotate in that position quite a bit.”
