Mohamed Salah hit a new Liverpool milestone in their win over Southampton.
Arne Slot’s side extended their advantage in the Premier League’s title race to eight points courtesy of Sunday’s 3-2 comeback victory on the South Coast.
Salah drew the Reds level in the second half after Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener had been cancelled out before notching a decisive late penalty.
The Egyptian’s spot kick, won from a handball by Yukinari Sugawara, saw him become only the third player in Anfield’s rich history to score 100 away goals.
He joins Ian Rush (161) and the late Roger Hunt (112) in hitting the milestone with fourth-placed Billy Liddell considerably behind with 86 goals on the road.
It marks the latest feat in Salah’s incredible Liverpool career as he now sits five goals away from Liddell’s 228 overall as the fourth-highest leading scorer.
“We always know we can trust him when things are difficult for us,” admitted Slot.
“After we went 2-1 down I didn’t really feel that that was the moment we would score.
“It was a fantastic pass from Ryan Gravenberch, but the timing of the run and the finish was special.
“That really helped us back in the game, and we needed that goal to play the last 25 minutes that we played, because for me then it was only a matter of time until we scored.”
