Iconic Radio City tower signage to be removed

Liverpool’s Radio City tower is set to have its iconic signage replaced.

The station’s name has been emblazoned atop the former St John’s Beacon since operations were moved there from Stanley Street in the year 2000.

But owners Bauer Media’s plans to rename Radio City to Hits Radio Liverpool took effect on Wednesday, six months shy of the station’s 50th anniversary.

As part of that rebranding exercise, a company spokesperson confirmed that they will replace the former station’s logo subject to planning approval.

They said: “The show continues to be broadcast from the Grade II listed St Johns Beacon and to reflect the new name of the station, plans are underway to update the signage pending council approval.”

Radio City was one of the final Bauer-owned stations to be stripped of its original name earlier this year as the move to a network-centric operation.
