Everton release 1990s-themed third strip

Everton have unveiled a 1990s-themed third kit for the 2022/23 season.

Frank Lampard’s side will debut the Hummel-made yellow and blue strip on Saturday as they travel to Aston Villa in the Premier League’s early game.

The shirt’s lower section contains a pattern which bears striking similarities to the one which the Blues wore on their travels between 1990 and 1992.

Another notable feature is a stripped back version of the club’s crest, giving prominence to the iconic Prince Rupert’s Tower as a standalone design.

A mandarin-coloured goalkeeper shirt also borrows heavily from the ’90s with a pattern identical to the one worn by legendary goalkeeper Neville Southall.

Alex Iwobi, who took part in a photoshoot for the new kit, said: “I think the kit is cool.

“It’s bright, it’s bold, but it’s stylish and it’s more than just a football shirt – it looks good with jeans and shorts too. It’s casual.

“Trying to show how this kit can be a fashion item was what this kit shoot was all about, and it was one I definitely enjoyed being a part of.”

Explaining the minimalist crest design, Everton’s chief commercial and communications officer Richard Kenyon said: “The aim with this kit was to create something a bit different, while keeping within some traditional colours associated with Everton kits.

“We think Hummel have done a great job of creating something that will look great on our players on matchday, and also appeal to our fans, who I’m sure will respond well to it – as they have done the other kits that have launched this summer.”

Everton’s 2022/23 third kit is on sale now in store at Everton One and Everton Two and online at evertondirect.com.
