Duncan Ferguson is set to remain at Everton under Frank Lampard.
Ferguson undertook his second caretaker spell this month following Rafael Benitez’s sacking but faced an uncertain future with Lampard’s arrival.
The 43-year-old will draft several ex-Chelsea allies into his backroom setup including Carlo Ancelotti’s former assistant manager Paul Clement.
But Lampard also requested that Ferguson, 50, is retained in the Blues’ new-look coaching ranks despite the pair both interviewing for the vacant hot seat.
Ferguson joined his new superior and Vitor Pereira in a final round of talks with the Goodison Park hierarchy in London to make their pitch for the job.
Confirmation of Lampard’s appointment as Benitez’s permanent successor is expected to arrive on Monday amid a frenetic end to the January window.
Manchester United’s out-of-favour playmaker Donny van de Beek has already been lined up on a half-season loan deal to bolster Everton’s midfield options.
