Liverpool’s Boxing Day clash with Leeds has been postponed due to Covid-19.
A fresh outbreak of positive tests within the visitors’ squad forced the Premier League to postpone Sunday’s lunchtime fixture at Anfield at 72 hours’ notice.
Leeds requested that their game with the Reds be called off in light of five new coronavirus cases, which compounded existing illnesses and injuries.
It means Jurgen Klopp’s side will next face Leicester City, who they defeated on penalties in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter final, on December 28.
However the deferral also rules Andy Robertson out of the showdown with Chelsea on January 2 as his three-game ban will be carried over as a result.
The Liverpool manager has remained forthright in his view on player welfare, as have both his assistant Pep Lijnders and captain Jordan Henderson.
“The only thing I do with my messages is I create headlines,” Klopp said after Wednesday’s game.
“We have tomorrow at four o’clock a meeting, but it’s with the Premier League – not with EFL, I am not sure if these people are involved or not.
“I don’t speak about player welfare since this year, I speak about it for six years – or maybe longer.”
