Is Mohamed Salah the Greatest Fantasy Premier League Asset of All Time?

When Mohamed Salah stormed onto the scene at Liverpool in the 2017-18 Premier League campaign, he became the highest-scoring Fantasy Premier League player of all time over a single season with a haul of 303 points. For a player of his outstanding quality and eye for goal, he was severely under-priced that term and those who owned him benefited greatly.

Salah proved that he wasn’t a one-season wonder and has continued to be one of the most consistent players in the game. FPL has seen some legends over the years, but Salah could now be considered the paramount FPL option of all time.

On Course For Another Record-Breaking Season

It has been clear for some time that Salah is an essential asset to have in FPL, and most managers in the game will captain him more often than not. But it hasn’t been until recently that people have begun to consider him as the single greatest player to have featured in the game. This is because he has been impeccable over four league seasons now, and is on track to dominate the game once again.

After ten games played of the 2021-22 campaign, Salah showed such impressive form that, if it continues, he’ll easily go on to break his 2017-18 record. He bagged 10 goals and 7 assists in the first ten games, for a total of 112 points. It seems that no other player can get close to the Egyptian, and according to the football betting odds he is 5/6 to win the Golden Boot at the time of writing. His closest challenger, Cristiano Ronaldo, can be backed at 13/2.

Who are the Other FPL Legends From History?

Recent players of the game would be surprised that Salah’s status as the greatest FPL asset of all time is even being called into question. However, there are a few legends from the past that have cemented their status in the FPL hall of fame for various reasons. Frank Lampard, for example, was a hugely consistent performer in FPL midfields for more than ten seasons during his time at Chelsea and Manchester City. Another of the all-time greats was Thierry Henry, who many consider to be the best Premier League player ever.

Some players have become FPL legends because they completely outshone their price tag. For instance, Riyad Mahrez could be picked up for a mere £5.5 million in the 2015-16 season. He went on to register 17 goals and 11 assists for a total of 240 points as he helped Leicester City towards their unlikely title win.

Could Any Other Current Players Get Close to Salah?

In terms of becoming one of the greatest assets ever to grace the game, the only current player who has a chance of getting close to Salah is Harry Kane. The Tottenham Hotspur striker has been a consistent performer in the game ever since he burst onto the scene in the 2014-15 campaign. Since then, he has notched more than 200 points on four occasions, displaying incredible consistency.

Right now, it certainly looks like Salah could soon be regarded as the greatest FPL player of all time. However, Kane isn’t showing any signs of slowing down either. It could come down to which player ends up staying in the league the longest.
