The Premier League denied Liverpool’s request to move their game with Watford.
Jurgen Klopp’s side risk being without Alisson and Fabinho for their trip to Vicarage Road due to their involvement in Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers.
The pair will be in the Selecao’s squad which will take on Uruguay practically on the eve of the Reds’ clash with the Hornets on Saturday, October 16.
It has now emerged that Anfield chiefs reportedly attempted to delay their kick-off against Watford in order to faciliate Alisson and Fabinho’s returns.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool appealed for the Premier League to push back the game’s current start time from 12.30pm to 7.45pm.
However the English top flight turned down the plea, which was opposed by Watford due to the upheaval a late change would cause match-going fans.
Several Premier League clubs face the prospect of losing their own players due to the disruption caused by the CONMEBOL qualifying triple-headers.
Last month Liverpool joined many of their domestic counterparts in blocking the release of their South American players for games in ‘red list’ countries.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino threatened to take action against sides who held back players to avoid a 10-day quarantine upon returning to the UK.
The government’s relaxing of the quarantine process makes allowances for players to leave their ‘bespoke’ facility to train and play with their clubs.
But the new regulations have been met with frustration from Klopp, who argued that it did not remedy the issues which arose in the September break.
