Liverpool are investigating an alleged spitting incident that took place during their game with Manchester City.
A formal complaint was lodged by the reigning Premier League champions in the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s 2-2 draw between the sides at Anfield.
The incident is reported to have occurred close to the Main Stand dugouts during the second half and is thought one of City’s kit men was targeted.
A separate member of the club’s coaching staff is believed to have captured the incident on a mobile phone camera, adding further weight to the claim.
Pep Guardiola urged the Reds to take action against the perpetrator of the alleged incident after being informed by his backroom team about it.
He said: “I didn’t see it [at the time].
“I heard about it, the people told me and if this happened I’m pretty sure Liverpool FC is going to take a measure about this person.
“Liverpool is greater than this behaviour. At every club there are people that make bad actions because of emotion.
“You have to control yourself.”
Meanwhile, Merseyside Police confirmed that three men were arrested outside Anfield before the highly-anticipated game on suspicion of possession flares.
Officers identified the men, aged between 19 and 38, as having flares in the Anfield Road area, one of which was thrown but caused no damage or injury.
All three are currently in custody.
