Liverpool confirm extent of Harvey Elliott injury

Liverpool have confirmed Harvey Elliott has suffered a ‘serious’ ankle injury.

Elliott was stretchered off during the second half of Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Leeds United on Sunday following a red-card challenge from Pascal Struijk.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for assessment but posted a thumbs-up selfie on Instagram while the Elland Road clash was ongoing.

Anfield chiefs have announced that the midfielder has been discharged but will now be required to undergo surgery on the problem in the coming days.

Jurgen Klopp admitted that Elliott’s mid-game social media update had allayed his initial fears about the severity of the injury that the teenager sustained.

He said: “It’s one of the few Instagram posts I love because if he sends that already, then it shows he has not that much pain anymore so that is great.

“We all saw the ankle was not in the right place and the medical team put it in the right place, which is very important really in this moment that it goes quick.

“Apart from that, there is not a lot of good things to say about it,

“Obviously it’s a bad injury and we have to wait now for further examinations, assessments or whatever, scans, and that’s what we do.”

Klopp’s side maintained their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane.
