Part of Pall Mall has been sealed off by police after a contractor found a World War Two bomb.
At present, store police are stressing that the bomb is unconfirmed but it is believed that it was discovered on a building site in the area.
Those in nearby buildings have at present been evacuated while the Mercedes garage and junction of Leeds Street remain cordoned off.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that bomb disposal experts were on their way to the scene shortly before 1pm this afternoon.
Images on social media would indicate that bomb disposal experts are now in attendance and specialist robotic equipment is currently in use at the scene.
