Liverpool to receive Anfield Rd go-ahead

Liverpool are set to be given the go-ahead to rebuild the Anfield Road Stand.

Plans to expand the capacity of the smallest-sized stand at Anfield by 7,000 seats will be put to Liverpool City Council’s planning committee next week.

The proposal has already received backing from the council’s head of planning, who has recommended that it is approved in the June 15 meeting.

Also included in the application are plans to use Anfield for other team sporting events and up to six major events annually for the next five years.

Once approved, the Reds will commence building work on the Anfield Road Stand imminently with the completion date still earmarked for summer 2023.

The new structure will be build directly behind the existing stand in a move which mirrors the renovation of the Main Stand between 2014 and 2016.

Anfield Road will be re-routed around the back of the new stand to make allowance for pubic access following a 2019 consultation with local residents.

Liverpool pushed back construction on the estimated £60 million project, which was set to begin late last year, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
