Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s display against Newcastle do not deserve a top four finish.
The former Premier League champions threw away a one-goal lead in stoppage time as Joe Willock drew the visitors level with a deflected finish.
Klopp’s side were spared from being pulled all-square sooner due to VAR overruling Callum Wilson’s 92nd-minute goal due to handball in the build-up.
But the Reds’ manager insisted that his team would not be worthy entrants to next season’s Champions League on the strength of their latest performance.
“It is very tough to take but nobody knows that better than ourselves. We kept the game open for them,” said Klopp.
“You better use your chances when you have them or they will come back again. That’s what happened and why Newcastle deserve a point.
“They scored a goal that was disallowed – it is the first present I can remember from VAR – but then we gave them another one.
“Why it happened, I don’t know. We had to keep the ball. In a specific way we don’t fight enough. Keep ourselves in a position where we dominate the game.
“We had 70% of the ball, we should have 80%. We created a lot of chances, didn’t score with them, so we have to create more. That is how it is.
“We don’t do that well at the moment. It feels like a defeat.
“If you deserve, you deserve it. I didn’t see us deserve it today, playing Champions League next year.”
