Man killed in Wirral motorway crash

A 31-year-old man has died after a crash on a busy Wirral motorway.

Emergency services were called to the M53 at around 9.20am on Saturday to reports that a BMW 5 Series had left the carriageway near to junction 5.

An off-duty doctor, nurse and police officer all stopped at the scene after seeing the car and carried out CPR on the driver until paramedics arrived.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by Roads Policing officers.

A section of the motorway, between junctions 5 and 4, was closed following the incident. The road has since been re-opened.
