Police close Liverpool lockdown parties

Police have closed two lockdown-breaking parties in South Liverpool.

Officers visited an address in Mossley Hill at around 11.45pm on Friday to reports that an illegal house party was taking place at the property.

Upon arrival at the house in North Sudley Road, a 38-year-old man was fined after it was discovered 15-20 people were present alongside disco equipment.

Another anti-lockdown party was uncovered at around 9.30am on Saturday, January 16 when police were called to a property on Smithdown Road.

The house’s occupier, a 22-year-old man, was issued with a fine when police found a number of people present and evidence of an overnight gathering.

Police issued almost 200 fines for Covid-19 breaches throughout the Merseyside region last weekend including three men who met up in a tent.

Two 22-year-olds and a 23-year-old were found inside a small fishing tent at Sutton Mill Damm in St Helens on Saturday

Inspector Chris Barnes said: “Our work to educate people about the current Coronavirus regulations continues on a daily basis.

“But where people choose to blatantly ignore the rules and choose to mix with other households or leave home for a non-essential reason then we will take action.

“It’s important that everyone does their bit to stop the spread of Coronavirus and protect our loved ones and the NHS.

“Whilst most people are abiding by the rules we know that some people think the rules do not apply to them and they can ignore them.

“Our continued enforcement shows that is not the case.”

Following the recent clampdowns, the force’s Roads Policing team has confirmed it will be carrying out Covid compliance checks in the area.
