Liverpool have reportedly discussed a swap deal with Schalke involving Divock Origi.
Origi has seen his role for the Premier League champions significantly dwindle this season, making only seven minutes’ worth of top flight appearances.
Diogo Jota’s arrival pushed the Belgian further down the pecking order behind the automatic starters of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Now, the Reds are said to be considering allowing Origi to leave Anfield for a second stint in the Bundesliga, where he was loaned to Wolfsburg in 2017/18.
According to Sky Germany, the 25-year-old will be used in a potential deal to bring Schalke defender and long-term transfer target Ozan Kabak to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has regularly deployed midfielder Fabinho at centre-back in the wake of injuries to his first-choice pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Origi etched his name into Liverpool history by scoring the goal which took them to the 2019 Champions League final as well as in the showpiece itself.
However speculation is rife that the striker could be considering a future away from the club after removing all mentions of them from his Twitter account.
Kabak, meanwhile, has been on Klopp’s radar since last summer despite Schalke plummeting to the foot of the Bundesliga table in recent weeks.
AC Milan are said to also be in the hunt for the Turkey international, who is still valued in the region of £20 million by his current employers.
