Marine handed historic FA Cup 3rd round tie

Marine will take on Tottenham in an historic FA Cup third round tie.

The Crosby club were handed a dream match against the Premier League leaders in Monday’s draw for the world’s most famous cup competition.

Neil Young’s side currently ply their trade in the North West Division of the Northern Premier League Division One, eight tiers beneath the Londoners.

It means next month’s meeting between the clubs, both nicknamed The Lilywhites, will see the biggest gap between teams drawn in the FA Cup.

Maine’s previous best run in the competition also came to an end at the third round stage when they were dumped out by Crewe Alexandra in 1992/93.

They beat Havant and Waterloovile courtesy of a Niall Cummins goal in the last minute of extra-time on Sunday to earn a place in the next round’s draw.

The tie will take place at Rossett Park on the weekend of January 8-11, 2021.
