Liverpool confirm details for fans’ return

Liverpool will restrict tickets for returning fans to those living in the city.

Next Sunday’s visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers will be the first time supporters have been allowed to attend matches at Anfield since March 11.

Under new Tier 2 coronavirus measures, 2,000 fans will be allowed to attend the December 6 game between the Reds and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

The Premier League champions have confirmed that 1,500 tickets will be available on general sale with another 500 allocated to hospitality and players.

Subject to ratification by the Ground Safety Advice Group, those attending the game will be housed in the Main Stand while The Kop is set to remain empty.

However only those living in the Liverpool City Region, which now falls under Tier 2 restrictions, will be eligible to apply for tickets through a ballot system.

Anyone successful in obtaining a ticket is advised to take a coronavirus test the day before the match or on the day itself before arriving at the stadium.

Jurgen Klopp welcomed the move ahead of his side’s trip to Brighton, declaring the move in line with a readjusted tiered system as a positive step.

He said: “We are all really waiting for little steps in the right direction, not only in football but all parts of life.

“This thing with Tier 1, 2 and 3 is the best idea we have at the moment in this country. It depends on how many people are infected in a specific period of time.

“I understand that there are obviously some discussion as to why it is an advantage for some clubs.

“I said before I knew which tier Liverpool would be in that it’s not about discussing an advantage or disadvantage of this or of that, it’s just making small steps in the right direction.

“I hope this is the sign for that. I’m happy we can bring 2,000 people in, nobody knows how long we can do that, I’m not sure which game we can have it for the first time.

“But I don’t think we should discuss this on the basis of advantage or disadvantage for this or that team.

“The world is in a difficult place and we all wait for small steps and this is a small step in the right direction.”
