Klopp rails against Liverpool VAR decisions

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool have been on the receiving end of incorrect VAR decisions this season.

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United saw the Premier League champions fall behind through an early penalty for a foul by Fabinho on Oli McBurnie.

Referee Mike Dean initially blew for a free kick against the Brazilian before the intervention of technology upgraded the incident to a retrospective penalty.

It is the fourth time the Reds saw VAR decisions go against them in the past week with Mohamed Salah also seeing a goal ruled out against the Blades.

Last weekend’s controversy-laden Merseyside derby saw a late Jordan Henderson winner chalked off for a marginal offside against Sadio Mane.

Virgil van Dijk’s ACL injury in a collision with Jordan Pickford additionally saw the Everton goalkeeper avoid punishment for another offside breach.

Reflecting on the Fabinho incident against United, Klopp said: “[There was] no foul.

“It is now six games into the season and in three of them we have been on the wrong end of these kind of decisions.

“We are not asking for an advantage – we just don’t want to be disadvantaged – and that is the situation.

“The penalty gave Sheffield a proper boost. Until then they couldn’t get to us.

“Then we lost a bit of patience but we scored a goal from our best attack of the first half, scored a second goal and I don’t know any more if it is offside or not.

“Then we did get the second goal and Mo had an incredible chance. They had their moments too but we defended with big hearts.

“It has been a tough week with a lot of minutes and tough opponents, so I am really pleased.”
