3 Ways to Protect Your Family

Parents will always have a hard job to do. Children are wonderful as they are so curious and inquisitive about the world around them, but this curiosity can get them into all kinds of trouble, and it is a parent’s job to protect and care for their children as much as they possibly can. This is not an easy task, but with a few basic ideas and rules in mind, such as the ones we are going to list out below, you will have a good basis for getting things right and keeping everyone safe and happy.

Hand Washing

Hand washing has always been important, but recently there has been a big push for people to wash their hands more. Washing your hands regularly through the day, even if you haven’t done anything you might consider would make your hands dirty, is a great idea, and instilling this habit into your children will help to keep them hygienic, follow the rules, and will reduce the risk of them coming down with any bugs and colds.

It’s good practice to always wash your hands in these instances:

  • Before eating
  • Before preparing meals
  • After you have sneezed or blown your nose
  • After using the toilet
  • Whenever they are dirty or you have touched something that might be dirty
  • At regular times throughout the day

Washing your hands is not as simple or straightforward as just putting them under water for a short while. To really get them clean, you must wash them for at least 20 seconds and use soap too. Teaching your children this rule and how to wash their hands correctly is a great way to protect them.

Regular Check Ups

Most people only tend to go to the doctor, dentist, or optician when they feel there is something wrong. However, by having regular checkups (ideally every six months for the doctor and dentist, and every 12 to 24 months for an optician), you can ensure that everyone is healthy, and prevent any potentially nasty conditions from being undetected for too long. Most of the time, however, there will be nothing wrong, but it is wise to make sure.

Since most opticians will recommend at least annual checks, this is an area to pay close attention to, as it won’t be looked at quite as regularly as the overall health of the body and the teeth. A Good Diet

Something that is incredibly important when it comes to protecting your children is to ensure they have a healthy, well balanced diet. Processed food, although handy and quick, should be avoided as much as possible, and plenty of fruit and vegetables should be included in the diet.

Trying to get young children to eat vegetables can be hard, and some suggest ‘hiding’ these good foods by blending them into a sauce, for example. The problem with this is that the children will never know they are eating vegetables, so when presented with them on a plate by themselves, they will shy away, even if they normally eat them at home (because they aren’t aware of it). It’s better to have the vegetables in their usual form and get help from an expert if your child won’t eat them.
