Klopp makes admission on Liverpool future

Jurgen Klopp is planning a year out of football when his time as Liverpool manager ends.

The popular German coach signed a new deal at Anfield midway through the previous campaign to commit his future to the club until summer 2024.

In his five years at the helm, Klopp has delivered the Reds’ first league title since 1990 alongside a sixth European Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

But the 53-year-old admits that he will sever ties with Merseyside upon the expiry of his contract and plans a 12-month sabbatical from management.

“I’ll take a year off and then wonder if I miss football,” he told SportsBuzzer.

I say no, then it [is because I am] coach Jurgen Klopp.

“If one day I’m no longer a coach, there is one thing I won’t miss – the brutal tension right before the game. This is not subject to entertainment tax.

“It’s the same every summer and it’s like running a marathon. I hit the finish line with a full body cramp, [my wife] Ulla catches me, and then we have a really good, chilled time.

“On vacation I’m a father, husband, friend. I don’t leave my phone in Liverpool, but it’s only used for important things while on vacation.

“[Going to local pub] is no longer possible, I would crash every event. I’ve come to terms with it, I’m sorry for Ulla.

“She likes to be out and about and among people. With her husband that is no longer easily possible.

“We can’t go to the movies, then eat sushi or have a pint. On vacation we have to pay close attention to what is possible [and] where.”
