Klopp hopeful of playing Man City clash at Etihad

Jurgen Klopp remains hopeful that Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City will be played at the Etihad Stadium.

Klopp’s side could conceivably wrap up the Premier League title by winning against their North West counterpart in the rescheduled July 2 showdown.

But the venue of the behind closed doors game is yet to be confirmed due to ongoing national police concerns about fans gathering outside the stadium.

The league leaders’ return to action against Everton last weekend passed off with little incident as supporters followed police advice in staying away.

City have similarly played two home games in the past week against Arsenal and Burnley which did not draw mass crowds to the venue itself.

And Klopp has urged the authorities to apply common sense to their plans for the scheduling of the Etihad fixture rather than inconveniencing both clubs.

He said: “I would prefer that it’s in Manchester, otherwise it would be really difficult to organise it.

“I don’t know exactly how it will be, but it will not be in Liverpool, which means we have to go somewhere where we both need a hotel, probably.

“We don’t know how to organise it, that’s a little bit of an issue. But apart from that, we play where people send us. We have no influence on that.

“I would prefer that it’s in Manchester, obviously, but I don’t know about the process exactly.

“I’ll wait until it’s confirmed that it’s in Manchester or not, and if not, where it will be.

“But as I said, it would be a challenge for both clubs now.”
