Klopp makes Project Restart supporter plea

Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool fans to stay at home during Project Restart.

The Reds sit just two wins away from clinching their first Premier League title since 1990 as the top flight prepares to return from its coronavirus hiatus.

Klopp’s side are due to face Everton on June 20 in a rescheduled Merseyside derby which could take place away from its original Goodison Park setting.

Discussions are currently taking place about the prospect of moving some of Liverpool’s remaining games to a neutral venue to prevent fan gatherings.

But Merseyside Police moved to assure supporters that the club’s home matches will still be able to take place behind closed doors at Anfield.

Klopp followed up Friday’s news by imploring his own supporters to continue to adhere to the current Covid-19 restrictions ahead of the league’s return.

“In the moment for me whenever it will be, in an empty stadium blah, blah blah, with all the thoughts and prayers and love from the people all around the world it will still be an absolutely exceptional day in my life,” Klopp told beIN Sports.

He added: “Wherever it will be I don’t know, we hope it will be at Anfield but we don’t know and that’s not important.

“I heard that there is some talk [about neutral venues], I’m pretty sure that we can solve the situation here as well in Liverpool.

“I heard a day ago a really good phrase about that we have the best home fans in the world, and now we need the best stay at home fans in the world.

“We waited a while for this situation and it’s not done yet. If we had not stopped the league, or it would not have happened, the silly null and void stuff.

“We wanted to play anyway and now we are really desperate to play because we want to become champions on the pitch that looks like that we can do that.”
