Altcourse prisoner escapes from Aintree Hospital

Patrick Garrett, a prisoner at Altcourse, has escaped from custody whilst at Aintree Hospital.

Police are now hunting for the 30-year-old who “slipped his cuffs” and have warned members of the public to stay away from him.

Merseyside Police have launched a man hunt after they were made aware of his escape just before 9am this morning.

The inmate was attending the hospital for medical reasons though it has been confirmed that they were not connected to Coronavirus.

A police spokesman said “We have been notified that a prisoner absconded from custody during a visit to Aintree University Hospital this morning.”

An investigation is currently underway, witnesses are being spoken to and CCTV and other enquiries are being carried out.

“I would appeal to anyone who has seen 30 year-old Patrick Garrett, who is originally from the Vauxhall area of Liverpool, or who knows of his whereabouts to not approach him directly but to call 999 immediately.”

Garrett is described as a low risk prisoner by G4S who are the company who run Altcourse prison.

The escape comes shortly after the news that prisons were being placed in to lockdown as a result of new Coronavirus restrictions.
