Jurgen Klopp is set to hold talks with Mohamed Salah over his Olympics call-up.
Egypt’s under-23 side are planning to include the Liverpool forward as one of three over-age players in their squad for this summer’s games in Tokyo.
U23 coach Shawky Gharib confirmed earlier this week that Salah is expected to be a definitive selection for the Pharaohs’ team that will take the finals.
Should he accept the call-up, the Reds may potentially be starting the new Premier League season without him due to the final taking place on August 8.
But Klopp insists that no decisions have been taken by either Salah or himself on the matter and is also awaiting further information from the Egyptian FA.
He said: “Do I want to lose a player in the pre-season? No. Of course not.
“But we have to consider different things. I will speak with Mo and all that stuff.
“We are completely clear about what we want, but we need more information; how will it look, when will the preparation start, all that stuff.
“Nobody has really contacted us so far, it’s just in the media [reports].
“We have had to play already without Mo but not too often, thank God, but from time to time we have to.
“It’s not about that. All the positive things I could say about Mo I have said in the past.
“But come on, it’s the Olympic Games. I’m still a sports person [and] the Olympics is the Olympics, but we have to see.
“We will have to see how we deal with it. We can’t really discuss it really because we don’t know anything about it, or not a lot about it.”
