Guardiola raises issue of Liverpool’s dominance

Pep Guardiola has questioned the view of Liverpool’s Premier League dominance.

Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham saw his Manchester City side lose further ground on the Reds in this season’s title race with a 22-point gap opening up.

It means that the Anfield club can clinch their first crown since 1990 with Crystal Palace’s visit on March 21 unless the champions drop more points.

But Guardiola challenged the view of Jurgen Klopp’s runaway charges following comments made by ex-Premier League boss Richard Scudamore.

In August 2018, Scudamore admitted he hoped for ‘someone to get a little bit closer to City’ in the battle for domestic supremacy after their 100-point haul.

“Two seasons ago there was the owner of the Premier League who said that could not happen again,” said Guardiola

“[Scuadmore said] it’s not good for the Premier League for City to win the title in that way, with 100 points.

“Now it’s Liverpool, you have to be concerned if you are the owner of the Premier League.”

Despite his complaints, Guardiola officially conceded that Liverpool could not be stopped as they continue to swagger towards their 19th league title.

He added: “They are far away, so they are unstoppable.

“They have a lot of points, we have dropped points quite similar to today. Even when we played at Anfield.

“Our targets are to win the remaining competitions and qualify for the Champions League next season.”
