Wirral to quarantine Coronavirus victims

A Wirral hospital has been set up as a quarantine for Conronavirus victims.

Arrowe Park will receive potential cases infected in the Chinese city of Wuhan on Friday when they are due to return to the UK on Friday afternoon.

A plane carrying 150 British citizens and 50 EU nationals is being transported from the region following the outbreak of the deadly disease last week.

They will fly to RAF Brize Norton, where UK natives will be transported to Arrowe Park while the remaining passengers will travel to another EU airport.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Coronavirus an international public health emergency following at least 213 fatalities.

American citizens are being advised not to travel to China amid fears of contracting the virus, which emerged in the Hubei provence.

A further 10,000 cases have been reported nationally in the country while 98 people in 18 countries worldwide have also found themselves infected.

In Germany, Japan, the US and Vietnam, patients were infected by people who had travelled to China rather than from first-hand exposure to it.

Of the 161 tests carried out on UK victims, none returned negative however two cases have now been confirmed members from the same Newcastle family.

Those returning to the UK will be put in ‘supported isolation’ at Arrowe Park which will last for up to 14 days while symptoms are assessed and treated.
