Liverpool have set a new record for the best start to a league campaign.
Saturday’s 1-0 win over Tottenham saw Jurgen Klopp’s side rack up the milestone, which surpasses any in the history of Europe’s top five leagues.
A late first-half strike from Roberto Firmino also took the Reds’ return from their Premier League campaign to 61 points from a potential 63 this term.
Only October’s draw with Manchester United, their opponents next weekend, serves as a blemish on their unbeaten surge towards a long-awaited title.
The European champions surpassed the Premier League’s previous record of 59 points accumulated by Manchester City under Pep Guardiola in 2017/18.
But Klopp remains focused on racking up the 12 victories required from Liverpool’s remaining 17 league games to seal a first title since 1990.
He said: “I am really trying to respond in an appropriate way, but when somebody told me I didn’t feel anything, to be honest.
“I’ve been in football 50 years and if somebody told me it was going to happen I’d have said it is not possible, so I don’t know what is wrong with me.
“It’s really cool and it’s exceptional – but we didn’t think [about the records] before the game and after the game somebody had to remind me of it.
“Maybe after five years or so I will think about it but for now all I can say is that with all we have we try to create a base for the rest of the season, and the rest of the season is quite long.”
