Liverpool junctions in top 20 for red light jumpers

A red light located in Liverpool City Centre has been named as the fifth most skipped by motorists in the whole of England and Wales.

Figures have revealed that 1, story 458 drivers jumped the traffic light at the junction of Victoria Street and Crosshall Street in 2015 making it the fifth most jumped light nationwide.

Two other Merseyside red lights featured in the Top 20, search including the junction of Northway (A59)/ Hall Lane in Maghull. The red light on Crosby Road South and Cambridge Road, notched up 883 penalties.

Reasons given skipping red lights included being slowed down by traffic congestion, not being able to brake quickly enough to stop, being in a rush, and lights taking a long time to change.

Jon Wilshire, Chief Underwriting Officer of Esure said: “The rise in drivers running red lights is down to people’s lifestyles – they’re busy and in a rush and just want to sneak through the red light and get to where they need to be.
“Aside from the obvious danger and increased chance of ending up in an accident, you could get points on your licence, which will affect the cost of your insurance plus you could be out of pocket and fined £1,000.
“The average set of lights change every couple of minutes so it’s not long to keep yourself and fellow motorists safe.”
