Man, 22, shot in foot and leg in West Derby

A man has been shot in the leg and foot in a firearm discharge in West Derby.

Officers from Merseyside Police were contacted just after 5pm on Christmas Eve to reports that a 22-year-old had received gunshot wounds.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment where his condition is not thought to be serious at this stage.

An investigation is currently underway and house-to-house and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

There are currently road closures in place on Mab Lane, Altfield Road, Croxdale Road and Snowberry Road and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Chief Inspector Derek Riley said: “The investigation is currently in its early stages and we are working to establish exactly what has happened here.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area around Mab Lane this evening who has seen anything to contact us a matter of urgency as they may have information which is vital to this investigation.

“I would ask the community to come together and give us any information that might help this investigation.

“You might have seen or heard something, no matter how small you think your contribution might be it could really help us find out why this happened tonight on Christmas Eve.

“I want to reassure the public that we are committed to tackling gun crime and we will continue to take action to protect our communities.”
