Adelphi ‘tarnishing’ Liverpool’s reputation

The Mayor of Liverpool claims the Adelphi is ‘tarnishing’ the city’s reputation.

Joe Anderson made the comments as he continues to seek showdown talks with the city centre hotel’s owners Britannia over its ongoing state of disrepair.

Countless holidaymakers have found the Ranelagh Street property to be unfit for purpose with visitors reporting numerous horror stories about their stays there.

And Mayor Anderson has reiterated his concerns about the impact that the Adelphi’s lack of upkeep is having on Liverpool’s overall regeneration.

“We can’t put up with the reputation of the city being tarnished by visitors coming here and staying there then writing letters to me,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“I get a couple of letters a month from people complaining and we see letters in the Echo.

“This isn’t an attack on the staff, it’s an attack on the lack of investment. It needs to be brought back into the modern day.”

He added: “It’s in the heart of the city centre, the start of the city centre. It was on of the most famous hotels in the world. It was classed as a top, top class facility and restaurant.

“I’m constantly hearing complaints not just in the local press but I receive regular emails from people complaining about the hotel.

“I’ve no doubt that the staff do their best in that hotel and I’ve been there in the past for functions and the staff and those on the front line do the best they can but it’s a tired old building.

“It needs a face lift and some work doing to it to bring it back up to a good standard.

“It’s in a good location and we’ve got to do something.”
