Klopp downplays Mane’s Burnley outburst

Jurgen Klopp has downplayed Sadio Mane’s outburst against Burnley.

The Senegal international appeared visibly frustrated after being substituted in the 85th minute of Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.

Mane remonstrated with several of his teammates on the bench and members of the Reds’ backroom staff about Mohamed Salah’s apparent lack of passing.

Although Klopp refused to confirm that the Egyptian was at the heart of Mane’s frustrations, he insisted that the substitution was not the main factor.

He said: “Mane is an emotional guy, something went not like he wanted.

“It was obvious he was upset, he cannot hide his emotions at times and I don’t mind that. It happens sometimes in football and he didn’t say any wrong words.

“We are all still friends. We spoke in the dressing room and he is fine, everything is good and we completely like each other.”

Klopp’s players managed to set a new club record with the victory over the Clarets extending Liverpool’s current Premier League streak to 13.

And the German was full of praise for the European champions for overcoming their hosts while also leaving their own mark in the Anfield record books.

“Formation-wise, the boys were disciplined as hell,” added Klopp.

“Burnley are so good at getting early crosses in they can make it really difficult if you are not quick. I couldn’t believe how many times we had to head the ball away.

“We might have got a bit lucky with the first goal but we forced that situation.

“If we have set a new record, I am happy. The players deserve it. This team wants to write their own stories.”
