Over 750,000 turn out for Liverpool’s UCL homecoming

More than half a million people welcomed back Liverpool’s Champions League heroes.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took part in an open-top parade across the city following their return from Saturday’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.

Reds’ principle owner John W Henry was among the representatives of Fenway Sports Group aboard the bus with Klopp and his first-team squad.

Thousands lined the route from its start point at Allerton Maze until reaching a conclusion on the city’s waterfront, greeted by flags and clouds of red smoke.

Fans clambered onto rooftops, bus shelters and lampposts in attempts to catch a glimpse of their heroes bringing the Eurpoean Cup home for a sixth time.

Chants of ‘Allez Allez Allez’ rang out across the parade route before an emotional rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone rounded off the procession at the Strand.

“I don’t know exactly how many people live in Liverpool but it does not look like there is a lot space for fans of other clubs. It is incredible,” said Klopp.

“If you are a young kid, which do you support? There are not a lot of opportunities or options other than Liverpool.

“You see in the eyes how much it means. It is really intense.”

Merseyside Police revised the estimated final turnout to around 750,000.
