Large fire breaks out at Woolton Hall

Firefighters are tackling a large blaze which has broken out at Woolton Hall.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service arrived on the scene shortly before 6pm on Thursday to discover large parts of the Grade I-listed building alight.

Crews have been able to contain the fire from spreading from an annexe to the former 18th century country house, which is currently said to be uninhabited.

Road closures are in place around Manor Road/Speke Road/Woolton High Street while residents and businesses have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed.

Situated on Speke Road, Woolton Hall was built in 1704 and restored 18 years later by the renowned architect Robert Adam.
