A body was found on the rail tracks close to Southport train station early this morning.
Police were called to the scene at 6:10am, ask following reports of a body.
Emergency services attended however the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to the railway line close to Southport Station, Merseyside on Thursday 5 May at 6.10am, following reports of a body on the line.
“Our officers attended along with colleagues from Merseyside Police and the North West Ambulance Service, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is currently being investigated.”
