Huddersfield’s Goodison approach surprised Silva

Marco Silva admits he was surprised by Huddersfield’s approach in their 1-1 draw with Everton.

The Blues needed a third goal inside a week from Dominic Calvert-Lewin to secure a point at Goodison Park following Phillip Billing’s first-half header.

It was a frustrating game for much of the afternoon for the hosts, who struggled to break down the Terriers’ low block.

And Silva says that Huddersfield’s decision to employ such tactics came as a surprise while admitting his team should have done more to combat them.

He said: “It was a tough day. We really expected something better when we analysed Huddersfield.

“I told my players it would be really tough this afternoon. We expected they would come here not with five [defenders] and not sitting back every time like they did.

“They showed big respect to our team as well but you have to be aware that can happen every time.

“In some moments you have to win the game, play faster and create chances. We didn’t do that. It was worse in the second half. We controlled possession but we were too slow.

“In these types of games we have to put more creativity in our game play faster in the opposition half as well to disorganise these types of teams that sit back.”
