Sam Allardyce admits he is in the dark over Wayne Rooney’s Everton future.
Rooney is currently in discussions over a potential summer move to DC United after spending just one full season back with the Goodison Park club.
The ex-England captain is understood to be seeking clarity on the Blues managerial situation before making a decision on moving to the MLS.
Allardyce is aware of interest from the Washington-based side and he plans to speak to Rooney on Friday to ascertain further details of the situation.
He said: “My understanding of the situation is there seems to have been some negotiation somewhere along the line.
“But in terms of the clarity of whether Wayne is leaving or staying, I’ll find out a little more today when Wayne comes in for training later on.
“I don’t get involved in anything regarding transfers in and out or negotiations. All I know is that there appears to be an interest from DC United.
“Where that is, where that lies and where Wayne lies with it, I can’t tell you at the moment.
“Only after I’ve spoken to him today will I find out where the situation actually lies.”
However Allardyce insists that Rooney has not asked to leave Everton and dismissed suggestions of a potential fallout between the pair.
“If the player wants to go – if any player wants to leave – I’m always comfortable with it,” he added.
“But Wayne Rooney, let’s put this right, has not asked to leave – and neither has Wayne Rooney had any confrontation.
“We’ve not been in any difficult situation in the time since I’ve been here because we’re two adults and we talk.”
