The Richmond Hotel is situated in a grade II listed building steeped in the city’s transport history. Before being transformed in to a luxurious apart-hotel it played host to Merseytravel’s business operations. Nestled in the Hatton Garden area of the city, it offers relative calm away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Setting it apart from other hotels, each of the rooms are sectioned in to “apartments” of three rooms. Rooms can be booked separately, or if travelling as a group, all three rooms can be booked out giving you the ultimate destination for a city break with friends or family.
The hotel is luxuriously appointed from the offset – large black couches adorn the hallway and there is a lovely black and white theme running through the ground floor decor.
The staff at the front desk are welcoming and are willing to go above and beyond in order to ensure that your guest is everything you would want it to be. The hotel website claims to offer an “experience exclusive to you” and the members of staff seem pleased to help arrange tables within the restaurant and make suggestions of places to go external to the hotel.
We stayed in a Junior Balcony Suite, situated on the fourth floor of the hotel. All rooms are sectioned in to apartments and within each apartment, behind a key carded door will be your private room. The room had stunning views over the city with the ability to see both cathedrals and St George’s Hall from our window.
The Junior Balcony Suite was largely open plan with a large living room area with comprised of two couches, a desk and a sliding door that leads on to a balcony with seating – which will be absolutely lovely in the summer.
There is also a large and well equipped, kitchenette, which would make this suite perfect for someone making an extended to the city – be it for business or pleasure.
There is then a large bed area, still fairly open plan, but sectioned away from the other areas. This features a second large flat screen television and ample hanging space.
The suite is luxuriously appointed in Neutral colours. The couches are comfortable and the carpets are thick and luxurious. Exactly what you would want if looking for a little luxury in the city!
There is also a lovely, marble bathroom which for me is the epitomy of class. It is light, roomy and the bath is spacious – so plenty of space to relax after a hard day of sightseeing in the city.
The R Bar and Brasserie is located on the ground floor of the hotel – just by reception and has a striking black and white decor. There is a large white grand piano within the restaurant that I believe is played on special occasions.
The bar area was busy on the Friday night that we stayed. The hotel is currently running a 5O’clocktail offer between the hours of 5pm and 7pm where you are treated to delicious, handmade cocktails for just £5. Cocktails on offer include Kir Royales and Pornstar Martini’s.
There is also a Steak & Wine offer on at the hotel at the moment that consists of a steak meal each and a bottle of wine to share. We both opted for the Ribeye steak which comes served with a garlic butter. I can be unusually fussy about steak and prefer it served Medium-Well however I took the recommendation of Medium-Rare and I did not regret it. The steak was absolutely delicious and it was obvious that it was of a very high standard.
The steak comes served with a large portobello mushroom, tomato, and large thick triple cut chips. It is also possible to have the steak served with various sources however I would recommend going for the garlic butter as it compliments the meal perfectly.
You are also able to have a bottle of wine to share. There are tonnes of options including Malbec however I opted for a White Zinfandel which was fruity, delicious and was a quality wine.
The breakfast at the hotel was truly outstanding – everything was fresh and delicious. Staff were attentive to restocking the breakfast buffet which was some task given how busy the breakfast was on the day. There is everything you would want from cooked breakfast to continental choices – all of which were of a very high quality.
Every single member of staff that we interacted with went above and beyond to ensure we were having a great time. Each seemed genuinely interested in what they were doing and happily made recommendations.
The hotel also offers valet car parking for the bargain price of £15 for 24 hours. All of the nearby car parks seemed to exceed this and of course involve walking. It’s nice to pull up just outside and know that your car is taken care of until you next want to use it.
This hotel seems to have everything you would want, it is luxurious but also relaxed. There is the ability to be as glamorous or as chilled out as you want to be. There is something for everyone and you are just a stones throw away from the city.
This hotel seems to strike the perfect balance – it is ideal for a romantic get away, a city break with friends and the perfect venue for weddings and celebrations. Many hotels are one, or the other, but the Richmond truly has it all.
The Richmond hotel has a number of very special offers ahead of the Valentine’s season. For more information visit their website.
