Police have launched an appeal for information relating to the death of a pedestrian in Aigburth last night.
Emergency services were called to a location close to the Territorial Army Centre on Aigburth Road just after 6.50pm, following reports that a white Volkswagen Golf car had crashed into a male pedestrian.
The victim, who is yet to be formally identified, suffered multiple injuries and, despite the best efforts of paradmedics, died at the scene shortly after.
The driver of the car, a 26-year-old man from Widnes has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and will be taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed once his injuries have been treated.
Early this morning, Aigburth Road- previously cordoned off to the public- was reopened following the crash.
Officers will now attempt to identify the body so that contact can be made with the victim’s next of kin.
Merseyside Police have asked anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed this incident to contact MSOC Roads Policing Officers on 0151 777 5747 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
