Local killer Ian Griffin has sentence reduced by French court

Murderer Ian Griffin was originally jailed for twenty years for killing his millionaire girlfriend Kinga Legg in a Paris hotel in 2009, however that has now been reduced to fourteen years.

Reports in French newspaper La Parisien claim that following an appeal earlier this week, Warrington-born Griffin has had his jail term slashed.

During the appeal a tearful Mr Griffin claimed that he never meant to kill Miss Legg, and blamed drug addiction for his actions.

“She was perfect and now she’s gone. All because of the drugs.”

In his first trial in 2014, Mr Griffin stated that the couple had argued over dinner after Miss Legg had refused to give him the anti-depressant tablets he was addicted to.

He then bludgeoned her to death in their luxury hotel room, before fleeing back the UK to evade capture.

He was eventually arrested and extradited back to France in 2011, before being jailed in 2014.
