Stephen Keenan, of Old Swan, has today avoided jail, despite being found guilty of punching and throttling his wife during an argument.
During the attack, the victim, Lindsay Keenan, was forced to lock herself and her infant son in a bedroom to escape Mr Keenan’s outburst.
The attack took place on November 1st 2015, and Police arrived at the scene after being called by Mrs Keenan to find considerable damage caused to the house.
The court heard that the argument began over where to go for dinner, before Mr Keenan flew into a rage, turned over a table and threw a mug at Lindsay before throttling and punching her twice.
Allison Clarkson acting for the prosecution at Liverpool Magistrates Court added that Lindsay Keenan and her son were forced to flee upstairs to escape.
“Mrs Keenan went upstairs to get away from her husband, however he followed and grabbed her by the throat, banging her head against the wall and punching her twice.”
Mr Keenan was found guilty of assault, having pleaded guilty, however he previously denied the attack.
“When Police arrived he made admissions that he grabbed her, but he denied the nature of the incident”, added Ms Clarkson.
Prior to his sentencing Mr Keenan did express remorse for the incident, adding that the relationship was now ended.
He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, forced to pay compensation costs and handed an indefinite restraining order.
