Jurgen Klopp is anticipating a ‘special’ game when Liverpool and Everton renew hostilities this weekend.
Saturday’s Anfield encounter will be the 228th meeting between the city’s two clubs as the Reds aim to complete a league double over their closest rivals.
With Ronald Koeman’s side heading into the clash in fine form, the lunchtime show down is one of the most hotly anticipated derbies for a number of years.
Liverpool are aiming to cement their biid for a top four finish while Everton are the Premier League’s in-form team in 2017 with designs on European football themselves.
As both teams head into the game with only six points separating them, Klopp is relishing the challenge that lies ahead against the Goodison Park side.
He said: “You have two big clubs in one city. That’s what derbies are.
“Not a lot of cities around the world have two clubs of this size and importance to the country. That’s special.
“Only 900 yards [stand] between the stadiums, that’s another special thing.
“These are the games you’re looking forward to.”
Everton head to Anfield looking to bring an end to their long winless run at the stadium in the Premier League era, having last tasted victory in September 1999.
Klopp has called on Liverpool’s players and supporters to harness the power of Anfield to ensure another happy afternoon for the red half of Merseyside.
“Everton is a good team, they’ve had a really good run with good results and they’re obviously confident,” he added.
“But we are Liverpool, we’re playing at Anfield and nobody should underestimate the power of Anfield.
“Whenever we play there we all have to create a certain atmosphere and it’s not important who plays there.
“I really will love to show this fact. Be aggressive, but not too aggressive and fight for everything to try to make our supporters happy.”
