Sakho confesses to Liverpool FC rule breaking

Liverpool exile Mamadou Sakho has admitted that he broke club rules in the build-up to his high-profile fallout with Jurgen Klopp.

Sakho last played for the Reds last April prior to serving a UEFA suspension as he was investigated, and subsequently cleared, of taking a banned substance.

But the French defender’s return to the fold was short-lived as Klopp banished him to the wilderness after being sent home from the club’s pre-season tour.

He was later forced to play and train with the club’s under-23 set up after an explosive Snapchat outburst during which he claimed a ‘lie’ was behind his first-team absence.

The Liverpool manager later revealed that Sakho’s expulsion from the training camp in America was as a result of him repeatedly breaching club protocol.

In a television interview in his homeland, the 27-year-old revealed that he had been guilty of failing to adhere to stipulations set out by the Anfield hierarchy.

“It is true that I turned up late. There was a rule that I should have observed,” Sakho told Canal Football Club.

“I do not at all see myself as above the rules, I respect everyone.

“I paid my fine, I was sanctioned, I apologised to my team-mates and my manager.

“Aside from that… I do not want to go into the controversies.”

Sakho remains hopeful of securing his Liverpool exit before Tuesday’s transfer deadline and harbours ambitions of remaining within the Premier League.

Southampton and Swansea City have both emerged as potential suitors but the EFL Cup finalists are now said to be the leading candidates alongside Spartak Moscow.
