Joel Matip has been cleared to play for Liverpool after FIFA cleared the defender of all charges in his dispute with the Cameroon Football Federation.
Matip missed the Reds’ games with Manchester United and Plymouth Argyle due to a dispute over his availability during the Africa Cup of Nations.
The centre-back was called up by Cameroon coach Hugo Broos for the tournament in Gabon despite taking a self-imposed international exile since 2015.
Anfield officials sought clarification from FIFA on Matip’s situation after his country argued that he should not be allowed to play for Liverpool while the competition was ongoing.
But world football’s governing body has thrown out the case, allowing the 25-year-old to be in contention for Saturday’s visit of Swansea City.
Earlier, Jurgen Klopp had revealed his frustration at the situation which threatened to see Matip sidelined potentially until the beginning of next month.
He said: “It is difficult in this position, because with the fixtures we have at the moment, we don’t have a lot of training time.
“You have to work with the team which could start in the next game and when you’re not sure what to do with Joel, he is not that involved.
“I had to put me outside this case a little bit because I need my full concentration about other things.
“We knew about the Africa Cup of Nations and it is the same for all teams with African players.
“The Matip case is obviously, for us, special and we do not feel it is fair.
“We do what we can but we cannot change it and we cannot turn it in our direction because we want it.
“It is another experience which you don’t need but we have to learn from it.”
