Thousands of people from Merseyside have signed a petition urging the Government to act to save Britain’s steel industry.
The petition was launched after Tata Steel announced plans to sell the loss-making British area of its business, placing thousands of jobs at risk.
The petition has so far signed more than 90,000 times, says: “David Cameron must take immediate action to act to protect the steel industry and the core of manufacturing in Britain.”
It also calls for Parliament to be recalled as an “urgent priority” to debate the issue – something Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is also pushing for.
Mr Cameron is today due to chair a meeting of ministers to discuss the crisis.
2,307 people from the local area have signed the petition meaning that Merseyside has one of the highest concentrations of petition-signers in the country.
