Klopp reveals extent of Sturridge’s latest injury

Jurgen Klopp has allayed fears that Daniel Sturridge could be set for a fresh spell on the sidelines after limping out of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

Sturridge was withdrawn from action just 10 minutes from the end of the encounter at the Stadium of Light following a collision Didier Ndong.

Prior to his substitution, the Reds striker had given his side the lead against the Black Cats in his first Premier League start since mid-October.

But the Liverpool manager insists that Sturridge’s ankle setback is not as severe as first feared.

“He had a knock on his right ankle,” said Klopp.

“I don’t think it’s too bad.”

Klopp was also at a loss as to how his side failed to make up ground in their battle to bridge a current five-point gap with leaders Chelsea.

He added: “I have no answers today, not because of the result but because I knew before I wouldn’t know what to say.

“Two games in two days is very difficult and we did well given that, but I’m not sure.

“It was a very difficult 90 minutes, I have no real idea because I know we can play better football but I’m not sure we could have today because we played two days ago.

“But you all want to see these games, even when you don’t show them to people in your own country. So I’m not sure, I’m a little bit in between.”
