A couple were attacked and theatened by thieves wielding baseball bats at their Toxteth home.
The man and woman were in bed at the time of the incident at Jacob Street, which took place at around 11.45pm on Wednesday night.
They were disturbed by two men who had entered their home. Both men were wearing balaclavas and carrying baseball bats, who demanded cash from the pair.
Before leaving with a quantity of cash, the pair hit the male resident.
Detectives from Merseyside Police say that the offenders are described as being in their mid-20s and from Liverpool.
One was thought to be around 6ft tall and of stocky build. The second was around 5ft 8in tall and of slim build. Both were wearing balaclavas.
The scene will be examined by forensic specialists, house to house enquiries have been carried out and CCTV from the area is being sought.
Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: “This must have been very frightening for this couple to have someone come into their home while they were asleep.
“I want to reassure them and the local community that we are doing everything we can to trace those responsible.
“Thankfully the man was not seriously injured but the couple have been left understandably shaken by their ordeal.
“I would like to appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to come forward – maybe you saw two men acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the burglary?
“Any information, no matter how small could assist in bringing these offenders to justice.”
