Man jailed for 14 years over Birkenhead rape

A man who raped a woman in Birkenhead has been jailed for 14 years.

Rashid Ulhaqdad was sentenced to over a decade behind bars after being found guilty of three rapes, two sexual assaults, actual bodily harm and breach of a criminal behaviour order.

The 35-year-old had been drinking and smoking cannabis as he travelled to the Wirral from Birmingham to commit the assault in October of this year.

Detective Inspector Paul Grounds, from Merseyside Police, said: “This was a shocking crime committed on a young woman.

“She has shown amazing bravery throughout the investigation and court process and it is due to her courage that we were able to bring Ulhaqdad to justice.

“Victims of sexual crimes should not suffer in silence.

“We offer support and advice through our specially trained officers from the force’s Unity team and can assist to support them throughout the process.

“I would encourage anyone who has been subject to one of these offences to come forward and speak to us.”
